Hoops for Hope: Kinsale Community School's First-Year Basketball Fundraiser for UNICEF

In the spirit of community, charity, and a love for the game, Kinsale Community School's first-year students came together for a slam dunk of a fundraising event – "Hoops for Hope." This exciting initiative not only showcased the budding talent of these young basketball enthusiasts but also served a greater purpose: supporting UNICEF in their mission to protect and uplift children worldwide. Held during lunchtimes, the event not only displayed some brilliant basketball action but also gave first year students a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a global cause.

The decision to partner with UNICEF for this fundraiser reflected the students' commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children in need. UNICEF, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, works tirelessly to provide health care, education, and protection to vulnerable children around the world.

In the past two weeks, first year students gave willingly of their lunch breaks to play against each other in friendly matchups.

The semi-finalists:

1A5 v 1A8

1A4 v 1A10

Two brilliant semi-finals led to a nail biting final between 1A8 v 1A10.

1A10 winning by a small margin.

Students were asked to make a voluntary contribution of €2 per person. The total amount raised was €287.62!

The entire event was spearheaded by Catherine Murphy (TY). Catherine initiated, planned and co-ordinated the entire event which was an overwhelming success. A word of thanks to the TY students who helped with the coaching and referring, and to the first-year students who gave their enthusiasm and a sense of community spirit to the event.
