KCS Awarded Second Green Flag for the Water Theme
On the 19th of April the KCS Green Schools Team received some great news that their application for the Green Flag award has been successful. The Green Team have been working very hard over the past two years towards achieving the water flag. The Green Team is made up of students from a range of different year groups. They have taken a range of actions and raised awareness about the importance of water as a natural resource.
Actions included; conducting leak tests in each bathroom in the school, took metre readings and compared the water usage across the school and ran an action week in 2021 and 2022. Our action weeks involved; a walk for water, poster competitions, guest speakers, H20 drone footage, a trip to the Hollies and ground graffiti workshops which involved designing powerful messages such as “The Sea Starts Here, Don’t Litter.”
The Green Schools Committee meet on a weekly basis to discuss future actions, activities and ideas on how to raise awareness around our community about how to conserve water one drop at a time. The flag will be presented to the Green Team at the National Green Flag awards ceremony by An Taisce on the 16th of May at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
Well done to the whole Green Schools Committee on their hard work and dedication over the past two years while working on the water theme. Thanks also to the whole staff for the many sustainable initiatives going on in the school and we all play our part in a greener, more sustainable future. The committee have lots planned for next year and are looking forward to working on the travel theme.
