Boosting Biodiversity

Another year and another hedgerow!

Ireland’s hedgerows are vital for wildlife and biodiversity by providing food and shelter for pollinators and many other species of insect, bird and mammal. Unfortunately they are disappearing at an alarming rate - up to 3,000 km a year!

This year’s TY Sustainability Team are ‘Boosting Biodiversity’ in the school for their Young Environmentalist Award by planting a hedgerow consisting of around 100 native Irish trees as well as a wildflower patch for pollinators. Planting has already started and there will be more tree planting days during Green Week (which coincides with National tree Week) on Monday 20th and Wednesday 22nd March. Fingers crossed for good weather!
