KCS JCT Teaching and Learning Day: Fostering Innovation and Growth
Today Kinsale Community School hosted its JCT Teaching and Learning Day, providing a fantastic opportunity for our educators at KCS to come together, share knowledge, and explore innovative approaches to education. The day was brimming with discussions and workshops on various aspects of teaching and learning.
The event was a dynamic forum, fostering in-depth conversations and interactive workshops that delved into vital educational aspects: reporting, assessment, digital tools, and wellbeing.
During the Teaching and Learning Day, several informative sessions were conducted by various speakers:
Jean Gaffney and Marie Hayes presented Compass Reporting and SLED, offering valuable insights into Compass Reporting, facilitating a better understanding of the reporting process, and introducing the significance of tracking students' progress through SLED.
John Corcoran led a session on Compass and Chronicle, emphasising the vital role of effective communication between parents and teachers in a student's academic journey.
Deputy Principal Claire Sheehan introduced Studyclix, an innovative digital tool aimed at enhancing the learning experience by providing an array of resources and study aids for both teachers and students.
Eddie Farren outlined the pathway of the student experience of digital media literacy from Junior to Senior Cycle.
Gerard O’Callaghan and Gemma Cooper delved into the possibilities of Microsoft's OneNote as a versatile platform for education, showcasing how it can be used as a whiteboard, for assignments, rubrics, and success criteria, promoting a more interactive and engaging learning experience.
Gemma Cooper also provided valuable insights into the Microsoft Showcase School Application, aligning with KCS's commitment to excellence and its active pursuit of recognition as a Microsoft Showcase School.
Mairead Dullea presented Athena, a tool designed for educational attainment, discussing its potential to streamline various aspects of school management.
Cliona O’Shaughnessy introduced the Reflect Tool for Class Tutors, highlighting its role in facilitating effective class tutoring, which is essential for student development.
Deputy Principal Iggy Dineen led a session on creative strategies for 58-minute classes, emphasising the advantages of pair work, group work, peer assessment, and active student participation. The interactive session also discussed Retrieval Practices, exploring techniques to help students effectively consolidate their learning. Finally, our dedicated educators explored Level 2 Learning Programmes in Mainstream, ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs.
