Photojournalism Workshop
Transition Year students interested in photography and journalism were in for a real treat as they attended the Big Picture Festival in Temperance Hall on the 20th of October. They received a tour of the photojournalism competition – featuring images from both national and international news from the Press Photographers Association of Ireland. This opportunity was facilitated by NewsBrands Ireland, a special thanks to Lisa Buckley for organising this fantastic workshop.
The group then moved on to Kinsale Library where they had a photojournalism workshop with photographer Dan Linehan from the Irish Examiner. Students learned about the history of the Irish Examiner in Cork, how photojournalist work and gather the images we see everyday in the news, how to use a smartphone to the best of its ability, and how images must be captured in an ethical and safe way. Overall, it was a very enjoyable afternoon for all, and we look forward to seeing how students incorporate the skills learned into their own photography.
