U16.5 Munster 7s Camogie Blitz

Our Junior Camogie teams travelled up to Mallow for their first blitz on Wednesday 28th September. This was an event where teams from all over Munster competed.

KCS Yellow made it to the final after dominating the first two group games and their semi-final. Kate Cusack made some great saves and there were superb clearances by Pamela O’Donovan and Sarah Lynch. Tara Hipwell denied St Angela’s and Laurel Hill their chances of scoring a penalty which kept KCS Yellow in the contention. KCS Yellow won their semi-final on a score line of 5-5 to 2-3 to St Angela’s.

Laurel Hill of Limerick were hoping to make it 3 in a row, but they were no match for this Kinsale team. Emma MacSweeney, Caoimhe Horgan and Aoife Cotrell pointed some great scores to give us an early lead while Catherine Murphy’s hattrick cleared the path for the win. Significant efforts were also made by Carly Helbrow and Kate O’Sullivan during the game. The final score was 3-10 to KCS and 1-3 to Laurel Hill. Tara did the honours of lifting the trophy for the victorious KCS Yellow team.

KCS blue put in a great effort in their group games with wins in two of them and one loss. They fought a tough battle in their semi-final win over Blarney after the game ended in a draw after normal time. Blarney had a strong team lined out, however KCS Blue pulled through with the win on a score line of 3-5 to 1-10 after extra time.

The final was a hard one for this team as they came up against a physical Roscrea team, despite great scores by Caoimhe O’Donnell, Caitlin Hurley and Aisling Rath. The backs felt the pressure however there were great clearances by Dani McCarthy and Amy Reynolds. Unfortunately, after all their efforts it was not their day but did extremely well in reaching the final.

KCS Yellow will head to Delgany in county Wicklow to compete in the All Ireland 7s Blitz in October and we wish them all the best!
