Senior Hurling Cork B County Quarter Final
Our senior hurling panel travelled to Pairc Choilm, home of Colaiste Chriost Ri (CCR) for a County Quarter final fixture against our hosts. Underfoot conditions were poor and the weather was bitter cold and blustery for the 12pm throw in. After an impressive start KCS were unlucky not to be a goal up with Eoin O’Donovan’s shot on goal well blocked by the keeper. CCR took the lead from a long range free by their number 8. A number of long range frees would prove to be the oppositions best chance of getting on the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. Our midfield lead by Colin Roche did an excellent job in cutting the supply of ball into the opposition’s forwards, as well as launching countless attacks.
Our two inside forwards of Eoin O Donovan and Matthew Higgins looked dangerous throughout this encounter. Eoin would grab 1-2 for himself by half time while Matthew had 1-3 by the break, with three points coming from frees. It was a fiercely contested game with plenty physicality. Riordan Stewart, Daniel O’Donovan, James Murphy and Eoghan Cummins impressed with winning ball from countless rucks and turning defence into attack.
A super save from Ted O’Callaghan before halftime meant we went ahead 2-5 to 0-4 at the break. The strong wind and tricky surface would continue to affect both teams attack in the second half. Captain Cian Quinn and Daniel O’Donovan both came up with important scores in the second half.
While at the other end Kris O’Callaghan and the rest of our backs kept up the pressure on their opposite numbers to allow KCS to take a well deserved win on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-9.
We will now play the winners of Patrician Academy Mallow and Colaiste Choilm in the semi final. Many thanks to Ger Cummins, Mr Burke, Mr Kiely and Mr Madigan in their work for preparing the panel.
