TY Rowing Programme

TYs have been running a rowing programme for the past few months, aiming to teach first years about rowing and instill in them the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. During the sessions, TYs taught good technique, organised relays, and played games with the first years. At the end of some sessions, they led stretching and core exercises. Over 6 weeks, TYs have improved their communication and leadership skills; and the first years got great exposure to a new way of exercising!

On Thursday 21st December, TYs hosted a rowing blitz for all 1st Years. First years came in their class groups to compete, with each student racing 200m as fast as they could to see who the fastest boys and girls were. John Kearney (past pupil, class of 2018) and Aoife Casey (Olympian), who are both members of the Irish rowing team, came to speak to the TYs and present the 1st Years with their medals.

TYs also hosted a blitz for teachers at lunchtime with lots of teachers getting very competitive!

Well done to the medallists pictured below.
