Junior Ladies Football Recent Successes

The KCS Junior Ladies football team have recently enjoyed two successful afternoons at Glanmire Community School and Carrigtwohill GAA Club.

The girls enjoyed a successful afternoon in Glanmire Community School on Thursday the 11th of November. Weather conditions were tough for both sides but a great game of football was played. KCS were against the wind in the first half but started the game with a great work ethic which allowed them to put up a good score at half time.

KCS scored a number of goals with Caoimhe Horgan and Caoimhe O’ Donnell on target on numerous occasions. The KCS defence were solid in the first half in particular and a number of blocks were displayed by the full back line of Anna Kelleher, Tara Hipwell and Kate Carmody.

The second half saw Glanmire come back into the game when they scored two goals after the break. With the help of Maisie O Callaghan in defence Aoife Cottroll, Lauren Bauleur and substitutes Carly Helbrow and Emma Jones around the middle of the field, KCS managed to get the ball to the forward line to keep our scores ticking over with Lily Collins and Vivienne O Callaghan finding the net. The moment of the match was when O’Donnell slotted over a beauty off her left from the left corner of the pitch.

The KCS girls travelled to Carrigtwohill GAA club to take on St. Als on Wednesday the 16th November. The Kinsale team needed a win to advance to the next round of the Munster competition. Our captain Aoife Cottrell won the toss which gave us the wind in the first half.

An opening goal from the home side set St. Als off to a strong start however KCS responded with some super scores from Caoimhe O’ Donnell, Caoimhe Horgan and Catherine Murphy. Our centre back Maisie O Callaghan was gathering up ball all over the field as well as working with her two wing backs who were on top form, Amy Casey and Ellie Coughlan. The half time score had us leading by two points, 2-6 to 2-4.

The second half saw some superb defending from full back Tara Hipwell and the corners Anna Kelleher and Kate Carmody. A great point from the captain off her left leg gave Kinsale an edge over Carrigtwohill. St. Als corner forward saw a yellow card and being sin binned leaving Caoimhe Horgan with a chance to stretch the lead even more with a penalty. Horgan confidently slotted it into the top right corner. Lauren Baleur, Emma Jones and Criona Murphy set up many scores with their continuous work rate all over the field. Substitution Aislinn Healy came on and within seconds had the white flag raised. With three minutes remaining, Ellie Coughlan made it a 14 a side match as she too saw a yellow card. Despite this, KCS had the game won with a score of 5-8 to 2-7.
