Junior Ladies Football Munster Competition
Our Junior Ladies football Team have enjoyed a successful campaign in the Munster C Plate competition. This competition started before Christmas and KCS had qualified for the quarter final going into the Christmas break.
KCS were drawn to play St.Marys Macroom, but due to unavailability of pitches this game was not played until the 02/03/23. In a windy Dunderrow pitch, KCS lined out against the girls from the Muskerry division. Great football was displayed by both teams but KCS but came out victorious on a score line of 5-11 to 2-11.
After a rusty start, the Kinsale girls got on the score board with Caoimhe Horgan, Caoimhe O Donnell and Catherine Murphy splitting the posts. In defence, Amy Casey, Maisie O Callaghan and Kate Carmody were dominant when they were tested on numerous occasions by the scoring threat of Clodagh O Brien on the Macroom side. Macroom were reduced to 14 players after 15 mins due to their centre forward receiving a yellow card and being sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes. KCS took advantage of this and thanks to the hard working mid field partnership of Lauren Baleur and Aoife Cottroll the ball transitioned well from defensive into attack.
After the break substitutes Criona Murphy and Vivienne O Callaghan added to the scoreboard while Anna Kelleher was excellent in defence. This win saw the girls progress onto the semi-final of the competition against Kenmare.
On the 23rd of March 2023, Kinsale ladies junior football team played against Kenmare in a Munster semi-final, and emerged victorious with a scoreline of 2.18-2.7. The match was a highly contested affair, with both teams giving it their all on the field.
Kinsale was led by Caoimhe Horgan, who was in fine form and scored an impressive 12 points for her team. Alongside Horgan, Maisie O'Callaghan and Aoife Cottrell also added scores to the scoreboard, not only were the forwards displaying great football the backs showed outstanding skill and speed. Anna Kelleher, Amy Casey and Tara Mulcair making multiple block downs helping Kinsale secure their place in the Munster final.
The Kinsale ladies football team put in a stellar performance, showcasing their skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the match. They will no doubt be looking forward to the Munster final with great anticipation, and hoping to continue their winning form.
