TY Students Take Part in Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Programme
Last week, 25 of our Transition Year students had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind TY Programme. Throughout the course, students gained valuable insight into the incredible work done by the organisation, learning about dog welfare, the support services provided to clients, and the technical training involved in preparing guide and assistance dogs for their roles.
The highlight of the week was a special visit to the Guide Dog Centre on Friday. Students were given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities, where they had the chance to meet some of the adorable puppies in training and see firsthand how these life-changing dogs are prepared for their future work.
Just when we thought the experience couldn't get any better, we got an incredible surprise—Irish Guide Dogs ambassador Roy Keane made an appearance! He took the time to meet our students, chat with them, and pose for photos, making it a truly unforgettable day.
A huge thank you to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind for this amazing experience and for the invaluable work they do in changing lives.
