Inspiring Climate Action at Kinsale Community School

At Kinsale Community School, sustainability and climate action are at the heart of our educational journey. This morning, our Transition Year students had the privilege of welcoming two exceptional guest speakers—Donal Chambers from Kinsale College and Brian McCarthy of Cork Rooftop Farm—for an engaging and thought-provoking talk on Climate Action and Sustainability in Practice. 

During the session, Donal and Brian shared their wealth of knowledge on sustainable practices, urban farming, and the importance of integrating climate-conscious solutions into our everyday lives. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, explore real-world sustainability initiatives, and gain insights into the power of community-driven environmental action. 

Adding to the excitement, Donal brought along a special spot prize—a box filled with home-grown vegetables, nuts, and raspberry balsamic vinegar—which was a welcome surprise for some lucky TY students! The gift served as a tangible reminder of the value of locally produced, sustainable food. 

Our Global Citizenship and Sustainability Team, led by Deputy Principal Ms. Kathleen O’Brien, is dedicated to fostering meaningful conversations around sustainability and climate action. Through initiatives like these, we aim to empower students to think critically, take action, and become advocates for a greener, more sustainable future. 

This event is just one of many Climate Talks that Kinsale Community School will continue to host, ensuring that students not only learn about sustainability but are also inspired to implement positive change in their own lives and communities.
