End of Term Charity Walk in Aid of Pieta House and Kinsale Youth Support Service

Our entire school community came together today, Friday, 25th October, for our Annual Sponsored Charity Walk. This year’s walk had special meaning as we raised funds for two important causes: Pieta House and Kinsale Youth Support Service, organisations dedicated to supporting mental health and youth well-being.

The excitement was evident from the start, with students and staff arriving in creative Halloween costumes that added to the festive atmosphere and school spirit. Before setting off on the 7-kilometer route, Ms. Hay and Mr. Cierans carried out a detailed risk assessment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Transition Year students and staff members donned high-visibility vests, acting as stewards along the walk, guiding participants and keeping everyone safe. Ms. Hayes expertly coordinated the groups as they departed, ensuring every student was signed in and out for the walk.

Throughout the walk, students demonstrated their commitment to environmental responsibility, following a strict “leave no trace” ethic to keep the route clean and pristine. Their dedication showed our school’s commitment to sustainability and respect for our community environment.

The route ended with an array of well-deserved treats, including a shop run by Ms. T. Fleming and her students, with all profits going to our supported charities. The sight of an ice-cream van at the finish line was a welcome surprise, bringing smiles to many tired but happy faces.

Following the walk, students participated in a Sustainability Quiz, a fun and engaging way to cap off the day and reflect on the importance of supporting both our environment and each other. It was truly a wonderful day filled with school spirit, unity, and generosity, with students and staff coming together to make a positive impact on our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and contributed to this year’s Charity Walk. We’re grateful for the enthusiasm and kindness shown by all, and we’re proud to support Pieta House and Kinsale Youth Support Service in their vital work.
