Pi Quiz 2023
On Tuesday March 14th, twelve 3rd year students, armed with calculators, attended the annual Pi Quiz. The Irish Maths Teachers Association hold this quiz in 36 venues throughout Ireland, to celebrate Annual Pi Day (14/3). We were warmly welcomed by the staff and students of North Presentation Secondary School, Farranree. Twenty three teams competed at this centre on the day and three of those were from KCS. The students were challenged to 8 rounds of intense problem solving questions, which required higher order thinking skills to tackle. Each round consisted of two or four questions, with only 6 minutes to solve all questions. KCS representatives certainly rose to the challenge and although were not number 1 on the day, they should be very proud of their efforts. The questions from Round 3 on the day:
1. What is the sum of all the positive integers from 1 to 100, inclusive?
2. What is the angle between the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock at 4:15?
How would you have done?
Well done to all involved!
