Road Safety Event held at Kinsale Community School

Caroline Casey of Cork County Council, members of Cork County Fire Service and An Garda Siochana today held a talk and demonstration on road safety for TY and LCA students at Kinsale Community School. The event was aimed at educating young drivers on the importance of road safety and to reduce the number of accidents on Irish roads.

The talk began with Caroline Casey discussing the dangers of reckless driving and the impact it can have on people's lives. She shared statistics on the number of fatalities and injuries caused by road accidents in Ireland, highlighting the need for young drivers to be responsible on the road.

Members of Cork County Fire Service then demonstrated the jaws of life, a powerful hydraulic tool used to extricate people from vehicles involved in road accidents. They explained how the tool is used and the importance of being careful on the road to avoid the need for emergency services to use such equipment.

An Garda Siochana spoke about their role in promoting road safety and enforcing road traffic laws. They shared tips on how to stay safe on the road, such as wearing seatbelts, driving at a safe speed, and avoiding distractions while driving.

The talk was an eye-opener for the students, who were shown the harsh realities of what can happen when road safety is not taken seriously. The demonstration of the jaws of life was particularly impactful, as it showed the devastating consequences of a road accident.

The event was an important reminder for young drivers to be responsible on the road and to make smart decisions while driving. It highlighted the need for education on road safety and the importance of taking driving seriously.
