Annual School Sponsored Walk

In a delightful display of unity, laughter, and community spirit, students from Kinsale Community School swapped their textbooks for sneakers and backpacks for water bottles to participate in the school’s annual sponsored charity walk on Friday, 27th October. This feel-good event which traditionally celebrates the end of first term, not only promoted physical fitness but also raised funds for worthy causes. Our beneficiaries this year included Marymount Hospice, Down Syndrome Ireland, The Irish Cancer Society and Kinsale Youth Support Services (KYSS).

The school grounds transformed into a kaleidoscope of characters, from superheroes to storybook villains, dinosaurs to Disney princesses, and everything in between in a build up to Halloween 2023! The creativity and enthusiasm on display were nothing short of contagious.

The day started with a burst of intellectual excitement as all classes gathered for the much-anticipated School Culture Quiz. Following on from the quiz, all classes, embarked on the 7km Ballinacurra loop walk. Prior to the walk, our dedicated colleagues, Ms. Hay and Mr. Cierans, meticulously assessed the route to ensure that it was free of any potential hazards, ensuring the safety of our participants. Throughout the walk, Transition Years and staff members donned high-visibility vests and acted as stewards providing guidance along the route.

In keeping with our commitment to the environment, all students embraced the 'leave no trace' ethos, assuring that no trace of litter was left behind on the route, an embodiment of our school's continuous dedication to sustainability.

Ms Hayes managed the gym and ensured that all students were signed out and back in on completion. Ms T. Fleming and her students ran a shop on the day and the profits will also be donated to our charities.

An ice-cream van was a welcome sight on arrival at the finish line.

It was a fantastic day where our school spirit was evident in abundance and staff and students came together in support of excellent causes. We extend our gratitude to all who supported our walk and our chosen charities!
