Munster Junior Camogie ¼ Final

Munster Junior Camogie ¼ Final

Kinsale Community School v Laurel Hill Secondary School

Tuesday 20th December 2022 in Colleges Pitch, Castle Road

The Junior Camogie team had their last outing before the Christmas holidays on Tuesday 20th when they clashed with Laurel Hill in their Munster Quarter Final.

The first half was a battle as the girls were up against a physical and very fast Laurel Hill side. Laurel Hill got the opening scores with two quick points in succession. The KCS girls were fighting hard for possession which was soon rewarded with a point by Caoimhe Horgan. The remainder of the first half was difficult for the girls as they were losing the 50/50 battles as Laurel Hill hounded for every ball and tackled in packs. Laurel Hill managed to score two more points before the end of the first thirty minutes which resulted in the halftime score being 0.4 to 0.1.

KCS came out in the second half with a completely different mindset. They knew if they were to finish this game with a win they would have to be stronger and faster than Laurel Hill. The girls started strong earning back points to narrow the lead the opposition had. The support play between each other was outstanding along with passes being executed perfectly. Tara Hipwell had a stormer of a game wing back, clearing every ball that came her way. While Sarah Lynch was also sweeping up in the full back line, denying the Laurel Hill forwards any opportunity to get a score. Maisie O’Callaghan and Ava McCarthy made excellent runs up through the centre of the field and delivering some great balls off to Caoimhe O’Donnell, Nora Gould and full forwards, Erin Ridgeway and Aisling Rath. It wasn’t long until Kinsale had extended the lead with fantastic scores coming for Caoimhe Horgan and Caoimhe O’Donnell. This was short lived as Laurel Hill clawed back a goal so that there was only a single point between the sides. Thankfully with more points from Caoimhe Horgan and goal by Aisling Rath sealed the win for Kinsale and they now advance to the Munster Semi Final on January 23rd. Full time score was KCS 2.08 to Laurel Hill 1.05.
