5th Year KCS pupil Lilian Gleave has been selected as a climate ambassador for 2023

Many wanted to be part of a prestigious group and become one of Ireland’s Climate Ambassadors. 5th year student Lilian Gleave has been selected as a climate ambassador for 2023 and will therefore be afforded the opportunity to take meaningful action and make positive changes, with full support from Climate Action Officers and a national network of inspiring individuals.

When you become a Climate Ambassador, you become a leader in your school, campus, workplace
or community to promote positive climate actions in a local context. The Climate Ambassador Programme is operated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce and is funded by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications. The programme trains and supports individuals to become climate leaders in their community

She will receive a full day of training initially, which will cover the causes and effects of climate change as well as the solutions. They also organise training as well as tours and workshops throughout the year at their network gatherings. Lilian will have to carry out at least two climate actions and two climate communications within the school or wider community. She will be asked to compile a brief activity report about what she did during her time as a climate ambassador.

All those who were lucky enough to be selected as Climate Ambassadors will receive certificates for their work and be invited to a prestigious ceremony in November 2023. Ten Climate Ambassadors will also be presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award. Climate change effects are being felt at a local, national, and global scale. Becoming a Climate Ambassador will give Lilian the opportunity and platform to do something really positive within our school community. Adapting to climate change and mitigating the adverse impacts is a growing concern in every community in Ireland, and she is looking forward to working on this exciting programme. We wish her the best of luck on her journey, and we are so proud of her wonderful achievement.
