Recreate Artwork Challenge
The study of art history can help us understand emotion and develop empathy as we think about the emotions expressed in the work and how the artist or subjects of the work may feel. With all Art galleries and museums currently closed, the Getty Muesum started a challenge whereby people could learn about Art History in a very novel way. They challenged their social media followers to “recreate a work of art with objects (and people)” from the comfort of their own homes. This became a sensation online with thousands of people participating and many other museums following suit.
The Art Department set this challenge to KCS staff and students and they did not disappoint! Everyone that participated remarked on how much fun they had recreating their favourite artworks. The Art Department received so many brilliant entries that Ms Kelly and Ms Fitzpatrick decided to give out three prizes instead of one! They are as follows:
Best Overall Entry
This was awarded to the PPE team in school who created an amazing recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, which was made possible and safe to do by wearing masks and gloves, a true reflection of the time we are living in.
Best Teacher Entry:
This was awarded to Ms. Niamh Hay and Mr Tony Cierans for their beautiful recreation of Irish Painter Frederic William Burton’s - The Meeting on Turret Stairs
Best Student Entry:
This was awarded to Luka Foley 2nd Year for his fantastic recreation of American Gothic by Grant Wood
All winners were given a One4All Voucher. Well done to everyone that got involved, you all created masterpieces!
