Social Enterprise Award for TY Students
On Thursday 27th February, two transition year mini-companies travelled to Fernhill House, Clonakilty with their enterprise teachers Ms Sinead O’Donovan and Ms Maria Brosnan to represent KCS at the West Cork Student Enterprise Competition 2019/2020.
The Student Enterprise Programme is an initiative run by Local Enterprise Offices across Ireland with over 26,000 second level students taking part each year. Students get to set up and run their own business, make sales, manage finance, market and promote their product and prepare a business plan.
Adam Buckley of Horizon’s Photography combined his passion of photography and the outdoors to create a top quality range of photographs for customers to enjoy which capture the beauty of many scenic locations of the Wild Atlantic Way. Judges were very impressed with the quality and creativity of his range of photos and the presentation of his display. Well done Adam!
Congratulations to Meadhbh Hurley and Anna Peare of Button Up mini-company who were awarded the Social Enterprise Award. Anna and Meadhbh produced an authentic and unique range of handmade cards using recycled buttons. The range included Christmas Cards, Birthday Cards and Valentines Cards to name but a few! Their product was a big hit with not only the judges, but participants and teachers alike, with many placing orders by the end of the competition. The Social Enterprise Award recognises the positive impact of their mini-company as they are donating 50% of their net profit to Pieta House. Well done ladies! Wishing both mini-companies the very best of luck in their future ventures.
