LCA Virtual Open Day with Kinsale College
On Monday 9th November, Leaving Cert Applied students took part in the first virtual open day with Kinsale College. They were shown around the campus in the comfort of their seats in KCS. Alayne Hynes, their Guidance Counsellor, brought the student around to different courses and they got to see a live demonstration on how to make quiche from the professional cookery course with their teacher Jennifer. Then they got to see where the Creative Drama and Theatre Arts students perform. They got to hear from a teacher and a past student and heard how they make their own props and costumes also.
Then they got a tour of the Sustainable Horticulture and Permaculture site including a sustainable building they made and inside a poly tunnel. They heard about other courses Kinsale College off including Art, Office Administration, Early Childhood Care & Education & Special Educational Needs, Film & TV production, Healthcare, Digital Media Production and Outdoor Adventure Education.
The event was meant to take place on site but due to current restrictions, student benefited from technology and got the next best option. Hopefully, the students will be able to attend in person later in the year, but it was a great start for the senior students in deciding their options when they leave KCS.
‘The Virtual tour of Kinsale College was very interesting and entertaining. We've learned a lot about the various departments in Kinsale College. The cooking demonstration in the professional cooking department was interesting. The Ampitheater was amazing to look at and very interesting to learn about. We learned about the various plants and food grown in the gardening class. They showed us the drama department. They also showed us the art department and a display of art inside the art department. In conclusion, the tour was amazing to watch’ - Meabh Aherne, 6th Year LCA
