Jennifer McCarthy: Finalist for JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons 2019

Congratulations to sixth year student Jennifer McCarthy who was one of 5 students who were named ‘Best Group’ at the 10th annual BT Business Bootcamp at Innovations UCC last month.

The project titled ‘Helping Hemp Heal: The Design of a Nano Formulation to increase the absorption of Cannabidiol in the Gastro-Intestinal Tract’ was developed by Jennifer who presented this idea in January at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS.

The bootcamp took place over a period of 4 days where students learned about technology and entrepreneurship. Students were also provided with presentations from a number of guest speakers and the event concluded with a pitch of their company/idea to a panel of judges.

Jennifer has also enjoyed success at the BTYS Exhibition in January winning 1st prize in the Chemical, Physical and Mathematical senior category and the Eli Lilly Special Award.

Last month, Jennifer was also nominated for the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cork 10 Outstanding Young Persons of the Year 2019.

We are thrilled to learn that Jennifer has been selected by the JCI judging panel to go through to the national awards which take place on 18th May. Congratulations and well done Jennifer!
