KCS Welcomes Brian Sheehan Lions Club International Vice President

On March 1st KCS was privileged to welcome the vice president of Lions Club International Brian Sheehan to the school.  The occasion was the 50th Lions Club convention which welcomed 300 members of the Lions Club to Kinsale.

Brian Sheehan from Minnesota USA was welcomed by Deputy Principal Ms Kathleen O Brien and he and his wife Laurie were given a fabulous Celtic welcome by Ms Brid Kearney and the school Trad Band.

Brian, CEO of a software company, proceeded to speak about his youth, in rural Minnesota,  the importance of education and of volunteering.

He was joined by President of Lions Ireland Frank O Donoghue and Kinsale Lions President Gerry O Dwyer and our own teacher Lion Tony Cierans.

A plaque on the  school Wall of Fame was unveiled for Brian and in the tradition of the visiting International Vice President he planted a tree in the grounds of the school.  Kinsale Lions Club has very strong links with KCS with its annual bursary and other projects. Most recently the new all weather pitch was names Gary Fitzsimons Park after local Lion Gary whose son Shane, a past pupil of Convent of Mercy,  Kinsale  generously donated 50,000 euros to help bring this ambitious project to fruition.

The day will long be remembered by all who attended.
