Table Tennis Update

As this table tennis season draws to a close, we look back on the good moments.

Two South Coast Schools league events for primary and secondary levels were held at Sáile this season.  In the first event, our team from KCS came second to Coláiste Choilm from Ballincollig.  Our team members were Nick MacLeod, Eoin McCarthy, Ben Loughnane, Shane O’Callaghan, David Nolan and Oisin Herberich.

The second event took the form of a singles competition.  KCS was happy to see Conor O’Callaghan back in action and our school did very well indeed. Ben Loughnane and Oisin Herberich made it to the quarter finals, David Nolan won the plate, Conor O’Callaghan was knocked out in the semi-finals against the Munster No. 1 Ciaran O’Donoghue.  Nick MacLeod currently ranked 2nd in Munster, lost to Ciaran in the final.

Well done to Alan Hurley of South Coast Table Tennis for the organisation of these highly enjoyable and popular events.

The Munster qualifier for the All-Ireland Schools took place in Knocknaheeny on March 22. KCS won both the Under 13 and the Under 19 events and represented Munster in the All Ireland Schools on 26 April in Dublin.

Our team members were as follows:

Under 13: Nick MacLeod, Ben Loughnane, Shane O’Callaghan, David Nolan, Ruairi Hogan and Martine Gonzales.

Under 19: Conor O’Callaghan, Eoin McCarthy, Oisin Herberich, Alex Schmidt, Nils Alexander-Rose and Max Condon.

Despite the 5 o’clock start, our Under 13 team still managed to bring home a bronze medal.

A big thank you to Ms. Scanlan, Mr. McCarthy and our coach Alan Hurley for making it such a fun day.
