West Cork Garda Youth Awards

Congratulations to KCS students Mary Collins, John Walsh and Cathy Hynes who received awards at  the 23rd Annual West Cork Garda Youth Awards which was held in the Beara Coast Hotel in Castletownbere on 23rd November.

The West Cork Garda Youth in association with SuperValu presented the awards celebrating outstanding young people between the ages of 13-21 years.  These awards recognise that a lot of good work is being done by young people in every community throughout West Cork.  Each year a number of young people are recognised for their achievements in a variety of categories.  This year there were a number of awards including – 7 overall awards, 4 district awards, 2 group awards, 4 special achievement awards, one community safety award and one outstanding contribution to youth award.

John Walsh was one of the seven overall winners and received an award for his multiple voluntary and community activities; Cathy Hynes received the Bandon District Award for her involvement in the European Youth Parliament and a Ladybird leader and various other voluntary activities and Mary Collins received the Community Safety Award.  Congratulations are also extended to past pupil Michael Maden who was also one of the seven overall winners on the night for his multiple voluntary activities.
