Junior Camogie Success

On November 11th 2022, the Junior camogie girls travelled to Charleville where they took on St Caimins of Clare to compete for a spot in the Munster quarter final. The girls played in heavy windy weather conditions, but this had no effect on the girl’s performance.

Sarah Lynch was captain and was successful with winning the coin toss at the beginning of the match, this result gave the girls a huge advantage of playing with the wind in the first half.

From the very first whistle the girls in midfield, Aoife Cottrell and Caoimhe Horgan, worked hard for the ball driving it into centre forward Catherine Murphy who gave the girls an early lead in the game.

The girls showed determination in the first half in wanting to come out with a win with Catherine Murphy scoring 2 goals 3 points from play and 2 points from frees. There were also superb scores from Caoimhe Horgan, Carly Helbrow, Emma MacSweeney and Sarah Graham

The half back line never let the ball out of their sights as there was great defending by Ava McCarthy, Tara Hipwell and Maisie O Callaghan, clearing every ball in their way. Hannah Ganly in goal made some amazing puck-outs landing between the halfway line and the 45 metre line on top of the KCS half forwards.

St Caimins tried their hardest when playing against the wind to go for goals but full back Pamela O’Donovan and corner backs Sarah Lynch and Caitlin Hurley did not make it easy for them.

The score at half time was 4-8 to 0-3 to KCS.

The second half began yet again with determination as the girls knew playing against the wind was going to be tough. The girls had great communication on the pitch and skill to leave them to extend their lead. Great balls delivered into the forwards from Kate O’Sullivan and Oonagh McCarthy resulted in Kinsale getting some great scores. A free from Maisie O’Callaghan with the short pass to Catherine Murphy, who drove a high ball into full forward Ali Kingston resulted with the ball in the back of the net. More great scores from Catherine Murphy, Caoimhe O Donnell, Caoimhe Horgan and Erin Ridgeway left the girls in the result of 8-9 to 0-6 to KCS at full time.

The girls came away with a fantastic win which was well deserved. Well done to all involved as they displayed great skill and represented the school proudly.
