"The Smog Sprint" by KCS Students Races to Victory as Runner-Up for Best Film at Rubbish Film Festival

In a remarkable display of creativity and environmental awareness, twelve of our Transition Year students recently participated in the Rubbish Film Festival workshops, an initiative offered through Green Schools and generously funded by Cork County Council. Over two full days, under the guidance of filmmaker Thomas Quinn, our students collaborated to produce an impactful one-minute short film titled "The Smog Sprint."

The film, which centers on two of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals - Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 13: Climate Action - delivers a powerful message about the urgent need for collective action to address environmental challenges. It highlights the detrimental effects of deforestation, food waste, pollution, fossil fuels, and fast fashion on our planet's health and emphasises the critical importance of sustainable practices in securing our future on Earth.

We are immensely proud of our students' dedication and creativity in bringing this important message to life through "The Smog Sprint." Their commitment to raising awareness about pressing environmental issues reflects the values of Kinsale Community School and our ongoing efforts to foster environmental stewardship among our student body.
