Journey of Creativity: Ní Mar Shíltear a Bhítear at Junk Kouture Dublin Finals

Transition Year students Kate Barr, Matthew Murphy and Abbie-Mai Hayward travelled to the Junk Kouture Dublin finals with their design Ní Mar Shíltear a Bhítear on Monday the 4th of March. The students represented the school in the Helix, DCU alongside 80 other designs from across the country. This is a highly competitive competition, with over 1200 entries into the competition, only 160 were chosen across the country. Ní Mar Shíltear a Bhítear (All is not as it Seems) highlights the contrast of natural materials versus manmade as it was made from can tops and reeds. A huge amount of work was put into this design as it was intricately woven together resulting in a stunning design.

Their day started in Dublin at 10am and consisted of dress rehearsals, being filmed for RTE, speaking to judges about their design and preparing for the show at 7pm. Kate Barr performed on the catwalk in front of an audience of over 1300 to the song Salute by Little Mix and she represented the school so well. It was so much fun to watch the show and see the creativity and ingenuity from across the country, the standard was so high. Unfortunately, the students did not progress further in the competition, but had a fantastic time and it was once in a lifetime opportunity. Well done Kate, Abbie Mai and Matthew!
