KCS win South Munster Schools Golf Championship

Kinsale Community School were victorious at the 2022 Golf Ireland Munster South Schools’ Cup qualifier in the Senior Girls division. The event took place on Monday 8th March at a waterlogged Charleville Golf Club. However, despite the difficult conditions, Lucy Carter and Amy Broderick excelled in the Senior division scoring a Stableford score of 21 points to give them the joint lead, however, on count back Kinsale CS were found to be the winning team.

In total, 42 golfers competed on the day. However, Lucy and Amy did not have to just deal with a total of 40 competitors, they also had to battle the weather. A yellow weather wind and rain warning made play exceptionally difficult for all competitors. The girls reported that they had to account for the strong wind in how they played their shots as the strong gusts were causing massive issues. Twice during the competition there was a shower of hailstones.

As a result of the poor conditions, only 12 holes were open for play. Both Amy and Lucy mastered the conditions and were ultimately victorious on the day. As a result of their victory, the girls will represent Kinsale Community School at the National Finals which will be held on the 25th of April at Milltown Golf Club in Dublin. The girls will have a number of weeks to prepare now as they will be facing stiff competition at the Finals where the winners of each provincial qualifier will be competing.

This is a great achievement for the school and we would all like to extend our congratulations and best wishes to Lucy Carter and Amy Broderick in the National Finals.
