TY Students Learn Vital Road Safety Lessons with Cork County Council
On Thursday, 30th January, our Transition Year students had the opportunity to engage in an informative and eye-opening road safety session led by Caroline Casey from Cork County Council. The talk focused on key aspects of road safety, highlighting the importance of responsible driving, pedestrian awareness, and the dangers of distractions on the road.
A major highlight of the session was the chance for students to experience Virtual Reality (VR) goggles, which simulated the feeling of driving a car. This interactive element allowed them to witness firsthand the potential dangers of impaired driving, reaction times, and road hazards in a safe and controlled environment.
The session was a valuable learning experience, reinforcing the importance of safe driving habits and personal responsibility on the road. Many students commented on how the VR experience made them think differently about the risks associated with driving.
A huge thank you to Caroline Casey and Cork County Council for delivering such an engaging and educational talk. It was a fantastic opportunity for our TY students to gain a deeper understanding of road safety, a lesson they will carry with them as future drivers and road users.
