Dr. Marji Puotinen's Inspiring Visit to KCS: A Call for Climate Action
We were delighted to welcome Dr. Marji Puotinen, a renowned coral reef scientist from Australia, to Kinsale Community School on Monday. Dr. Puotinen conducted engaging workshops focused on climate action with all our first-year students.
Our first-year students' message is clear: "ACT NOW" for climate action in Ireland.
A prominent feature of the event was a banner displaying the Climate Stripes for Europe, illustrating the temperature changes from 1850 to 2022. The stripes visually depict the increasing heat (red) compared to cooler years (blue). You can explore these climate trends for your continent, country, or ocean here: Climate Stripes.
Additionally, Ellie and Skye Sheedy, our Transition Year students and members of the Green Schools Committee, shared their vision for the environmental changes they hope to see in Ireland. Their presentation included a compelling video with stunning drone footage of our school, which you can download and watch here: ACT NOW Video.
Dr. Puotinen is the founder of the Kids Care About Climate Change initiative, an inspiring project that encourages young people to take action against climate change. Learn more about it here: Kids Care About Climate.
