Hurling Update
Senior Hurling
The senior hurlers have been very successful so far this year. They had a lengthy run in the Munster championship where they had comprehensive wins again St Joseph’s Borrisoleigh, Borrisokane Community School and Colaiste na Piarsaigh, Glanmire. Unfortunately, we came up against a very strong team in Scariff Community College and lost out in a Munster semi-final. Scariff went on to reach an all-Ireland final and if KCS had some luck on the day it may have been us that is preparing for an all- Ireland final now. However, our year is not over yet as the lads continues to train for a county final in the coming weeks again either Colaiste Choilm or Colaiste Chriost Ri. They continue to do this under the tutelage of Mr Leahy and Mr Madigan as well as coaches from Courcey Rovers and Ballymartle GAA clubs.
Under 14 and Under 15 Hurling
The under 14 hurlers have had a very successful year so far having beaten Colaiste na Trionoide and Clonakilty Community School. This has led them to qualify for the county quarter final which will be played in the coming weeks.
The under 15 hurlers have only recently embarked on their Munster campaign with a very impressive victory over St Colman’s Community School, Midleton. This has helped them progress to a Munster quarter final against Mitchelstown CBS which will take place in the coming days.
In recent weeks Mr Leahy, in collaboration with Ms M Fleming and the TY Build a Bank programme, brought Conor Lehane (Cork Senior Hurler) to KCS for a training session with both the under 14 and under 15 hurlers. This was a day that gave the players an insight into what it takes to become an intercounty hurler as well as being a great thrill to be trained by one of the best hurlers in the country. The students benefitted greatly from the skills that Conor helped them enhance, while the question and answer session that they took part in gave an understanding into the mind-set of someone who has reached the top of their game. This was greatly valued by the players and will be something that will be of benefit to them as both teams aim to bring silverware back to KCS.
