Homage to Hairspray

Transition year students, under the direction of teachers, Leona Forde, Brid Kearney and Sinead Brennan formulated a fantastic production of the musical; ”A homage to Hairspray”.  The musical ran for four nights from the 12th – 15th December.

This larger than life musical followed the adventures of the plus sized, lovable, vivacious Miss Tracy Turnblad, a teenager whose greatest desire is to dance on the Corny Collins Show. But Tracy was up against some formidable forces, segregation, racism and the reigning Teen Queen Amber Von Tussle. So could Tracy make her dream come true, win the guy and steal the Miss Teenage title, all without denting her do? Well the audience had to come along and  see!

The set design comprised of a burst of colour and plenty of glitter which tremendously added to the visual appeal.  Both students and teachers were hard at work to create a variety of props and sets including a jail cell, Mr. Pinky’s shop, The Hefty Hideaway and Ms Motormouth Maybelle’s record shop.

A Homage to Hairspray was full of laughter, romance and some very happening hairdos. It was a fantastic success and sold out over the four night period!
