Flag Raising
On Friday March 16th the History Department, led by Diarmaid O'Donovan, organised a flag ceremony for the school community. As the weather was showery, the ceremony was held in the G corridor.
Mr. O'Donovan introduced proceedings by speaking of the History of the flag and its future as a symbol of inclusiveness and pride. The proclamation of independence was then read by the head boy David Graham and head girl Ellen Kelleher.
The school music group under the direction of Ms Brid Kearney then played a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.
To conclude proceedings Mr McCarthy gave a short speech on the importance of the Irish flag and thanked all those who made it such a respectful and unifying occasion for those who took part.
The ceremony was a great example of collaboration between the History, Music and Irish Departments at KCS.
