Honoring All Ireland Success in KCS
We were honoured to have 3 important trophies in Kinsale Community School today.
In April Saoirse McCarthy, Deirdre O’Reilly (6th year) and Fiona Keating (5th Year) were members of the team that won the Minor All Ireland Camogie final. They showed us the SíghleNic An Ultaigh Cup at an assembly of students today to a rapturous round of applause. We are so proud of their achievements.
On September 9th this year Saoirse scored 4 points contributing to Cork winning the All Ireland Intermediate Final vs Down. She was deservedly named Player of the Match after this game. Cork had suffered defeat in six All-Irelands intermediate camogie finals since 2006, including the last three years in-a-row, but they put that losing run to bed by collecting their fourth title at the grade this year. The McGrath Cup was proudly displayed by Saoirse today.
On the same day Saoirse returned to the dressing room and changed and lined out an hour later with the senior camogie team. They were victorious against Kilkenny. Saoirse therefore won her 3rd all Ireland medal, 2 on the same day.The O Duffy Cup, the senior All Ireland trophy took centre stage today.
To win 3 All Ireland medals at Minor, Intermediate and Senior level in one year is a phenomenal achievement. We are all so proud of her.
Saoirse has since been shortlisted for the Camogie Association Players Player of the year, this honours the outstanding achievements of an individual player. She has also been nominated for this years Camogie Soaring Stars Awards. These will be presented at the All Star banquet in Dublin on Nov 3rd.
We wish her all the best but she is already an All Star to us.
I think you will agree the girls are great role models and people we could all take inspiration from.
